The following is a summary of thoughts that I've collected from individuals in construction, clients, homeowners, and through my own experiences.
The idea to enact change in Delaware as it relates to home construction, remodeling, repair, and improvement is not an original one. Delaware has gained a reputation among homeowners for unreliable or unresponsive contractors and often shoddy work. It's a reputation that's been allowed to persist because because the State of Delaware does not provide any standards for an individual to start a construction business. No test, no application, no review board.
DCHA aspires to be a community where contractors and homeowners can inspire model regulations to create a path towards best practices in business and construction. If we win that fight, the community can remain as a resource for contractors and homeowners to learn about each other and foster better client - customer relationships.
Non-Profits may not engage in lobbying action. While lobbying will still be in the minority of our day to day operations, it is important to keep it on the table to support our mission.

I've been in and around the trades since I was 15 years old. My experience has been broad, which has enabled me to see the trades in Delaware from many different angles. I feel we can do better and that's what this group is about; creating a community of conscientious contractors and motivated homeowners to enact meaningful change.

This is starting as a grassroots effort. The page will need help from a diverse group of community members to enact change beyond our initial goals. Do you have skills that could help?
